Kanchipattu Saree Care Instructions
1. Dry Clean Only:
Always dry clean your Kanchipattu saree, especially if it includes zari or intricate weaving. This helps maintain the silk’s sheen and structure, and prevents damage to delicate threads.
2. Avoid Washing at Home:
Do not machine wash or hand wash, as water and harsh detergents can weaken silk fibers and dull the zari.
3. Storage Tips:
Store the saree in a muslin or cotton cloth — this allows the fabric to breathe.
Avoid plastic covers as they trap moisture and can damage both silk and zari.
Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Refold the saree every 2–3 months to avoid permanent creases and zari tearing.
4. Ironing:
Use a low to medium heat setting when ironing.
Always place a thin cotton cloth over the saree to protect it while ironing.
Do not steam or apply direct heat on the zari.
5. Perfumes and Deodorants:
Avoid spraying perfume, deodorant, or hair products directly on the saree — especially over zari work, as chemicals may cause discoloration.
6. Handling Tips:
Be gentle while draping to avoid pulling the zari.
Ensure hands are clean and dry when handling the saree to avoid stains and oils transferring.
